Use of MANs Initiative

Welcome to the home page of the Use of MANs Initiative (UMI).

UMI's mission is to explore ways of using Metropolitan Area Networks in Higher Education. The Initiative was set up and is funded by the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council (SHEFC).

• brief descriptions of about 40 projects funded by UMI, with links to the projects' own home pages. Some projects produced high quality teaching materials for delivery across the MANs, some carried out hardware and infrastructure projects, some focused on staff development
• information on high-quality video-conference studios funded under UMI, how to book them, and how to use them
• information on current UMI activities including meetings, reports, plans, presentations
• FAQs of interest to MAN users
• links to other web sites

UMI is co-ordinated by Jean Ritchie, who is responsible for this site and who would welcome comments and suggestions.
